Relative Velocity

Question: A jet black Skoda Octavia Rider just zooms past you. What is its velocity?

Answer: Start your car. Bring it to motion and follow the Skoda Octavia Rider. Now, give your acclerator full thrust. Acclerate and acclerate. If the distance between your car and the Skoda Octavia Rider stops increasing then read ahead. Else, stop your car and stop wasting fuel.

Just at the point when the distance between your car and the Skoda Octavia Rider becomes constant, note down your car’s speed. Call it X kmph. By the principles of relative velocity, we can say that the velocity of the Skoda Octavia Rider is X kmph in the direction in which your car is moving.
